Slaughterhouse owner at centre of RTÉ exposé fined over fraudulent passports for horses destined for human consumption

John Joe Fitzpatrick, a man in his 70s from Montpelier, Co Limerick, was fined €3,000 for possessing fraudulent horse passports at the country’s only approved horse slaughter plant. He admitted to five counts of having passports without matching horses on July 15, 2022. Fitzpatrick, who had a prior conviction for animal cruelty, was fined along with his son a total of €4,000 for their involvement in the illegal activity.
