Remains discovered under the altar of St Peter and Paul Church in Maastricht may belong to the legendary musketeer d’Artagnan, whose real name was Charles de Batz de Castelmore. Archaeologists found the skeleton alongside a bullet and a period coin, suggesting a strong connection to the historical figure, who died in 1673 during the Franco-Dutch War. DNA testing is underway to confirm the identity, with church deacon Jos Valke expressing high confidence in the findings.
