The remains of former Oregon mayor Edwin Asher have been identified two decades after his presumed drowning in 2006 while crabbing in Tillamook Bay. His skeletal remains were discovered in November 2006 on a beach in Washington but remained unidentified until 2025, when DNA testing by Othram confirmed his identity through investigative genetic genealogy. Asher, 72 at the time of his disappearance, was reported missing by his wife and was known for his community contributions in Fossil, Oregon. He is survived by three biological children and six stepchildren.
