Companies, particularly supermarkets like Marks and Spencer (M&S) and Co-op, are facing constant cyber attacks, with M&S recently suffering from a ransomware incident that disrupted operations and led to significant financial losses. Cybersecurity expert Dr. Ian Batten indicated that these attacks are often carried out by less sophisticated hackers using social engineering tactics rather than complex methods, with a group called Scattered Spider linked to the M&S breach. The motivations behind such attacks vary, including recognition among peers and chaos creation, beyond mere financial gain.
