Shohei Ohtani announced on social media that he plans to represent Japan in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, following his MVP performance in the 2023 tournament where he led Japan to victory. Recently, he won his fourth MVP award and contributed to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ second consecutive World Series title after returning from Tommy John surgery. In a standout postseason game, he struck out 10 batters and hit three home runs. Ohtani did not clarify whether he will pitch for Japan in the WBC starting March 5.
