The Altadena sheriff’s station was shut down by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department due to concerns of airborne contaminants and lack of running water following the Eaton fire, prompting deputies to wear masks and decontaminate their uniforms. The closure came after a complaint about contamination was received from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, with regulators yet to determine the validity of the concerns. Despite the challenging conditions, deputies are dedicated to serving the community and the department is working to ensure their safety with masks, goggles, and cotton-based uniforms for easier cleaning.
