Getting a release date for a game that has caught your eye is always exciting. We’ve had a few glimpses of Schim, a charming puzzle platformer, in previous game showcases. During Nintendo’s Indie World stream on Wednesday, it was revealed that the game will be coming to Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on July 18. The developers have also mentioned that it will run smoothly on Steam Deck.
In Schim, you play as a schim, a frog-like creature connected to a human but separated from them. To reunite with your person, you must jump from one shadow to another. The game incorporates light and shadows in interesting ways, like activating a forklift to access a new area horizontally or pulling on a sign to propel yourself forward.
Schim features an abstract art style that complements its moderately challenging gameplay. Developers Ewoud van der Werf and Nils Slijkerman, who have spent four years working on the game, have promised that each level will include small stories. I am eagerly anticipating this release.
