A new study in Nature links over 200 severe heat waves to greenhouse gas emissions from major fossil fuel companies like ExxonMobil, Chevron, and BP, with up to a quarter of these events deemed “virtually impossible” without such pollution. Researchers utilized a disaster database and climate models to analyze the impact of emissions from both large and smaller fossil fuel producers on the intensity and likelihood of these heat waves.
