Over two decades ago, scientists discovered a mysterious sea slug in the Monterey Bay, naming it Bathydevius caudactylus. Using advanced underwater technology, researchers have observed the creature 150 times and published their findings in the journal Deep-Sea Research Part I. This unique nudibranch, living in the ocean’s midnight zone, uses bioluminescence and a decoy to evade predators, highlighting the significance of deep-sea exploration and the importance of understanding unknown marine species for ocean stewardship.
