Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, introduced to implement the Assam Accord, outlines the process for recognizing migrants in Assam as Indian citizens or deporting them based on their migration date. Those who arrived in Assam between January 1, 1966, and March 25, 1971, from specified territories, including Bangladesh, and have been residing in Assam since, must register for citizenship under Section 18. The provision establishes March 25, 1971, as the cut-off date for granting citizenship to Bangladeshi migrants in Assam, ensuring compliance with the outlined criteria.
