Valerie the sausage dog ‘fit and well’ after 529 days alone in Australian bush

A sausage dog named Valerie has been found “fit and well” after surviving alone in the Australian bush for 529 days since going missing on Kangaroo Island in November 2023. Kangala Wildlife Rescue volunteers dedicated around 1,000 hours and traveled over 3,000 miles to locate her, ultimately using surveillance and traps for her rescue. Valerie’s story captivated the Australian public, and she is now transitioning back to her loving owners after being spotted and captured in March 2025.
