Authorities say the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Russia’s only launch site for crewed space missions, will be restored ‘very soon’.
A launch at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, which carried Russian and American astronauts to the ISS, caused damage to the launchpad. Roscosmos reported that an assessment is underway and confirmed that restoration will occur soon, though some analysts claim the damage is more severe. If operations are suspended, it would mark the first time since 1961 that Russia cannot launch crewed missions. Despite sanctions and strained relations, U.S.-Russian cooperation in space continues.
