A Russian captain, Vladimir Motin, 59, is on trial for gross negligence manslaughter following a collision between his ship, the Solong, and the anchored Stena Immaculate near the Humber Estuary in March, resulting in the death of crew member Mark Angelo Pernia, 38. Motin, who was on sole watch duty, denies falling asleep or losing consciousness at the time of the crash. He claims to have attempted to change course and troubleshoot steering issues before the collision. The trial continues as jurors hear details of the incident and its aftermath.
