Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh are uncertain about returning to Myanmar due to ongoing rebel control along the border. Negotiations for repatriation have made little progress as safety concerns persist after the military coup in 2021. The Arakan Army’s recent capture of Maungdaw township has raised hopes for safe return, but ongoing fighting and uncertainty about the AA’s governance remain major obstacles for the Rohingya refugees.
