Ritchie and Rene Day, a retired couple in Grand Forks, B.C., faced their second devastating fire in 2025, losing their belongings once more after a fire broke out at Johnny’s Motel on December 21. They had previously lost their home to a fire in September, which destroyed their possessions and four pet birds. The cause of the motel fire remains undetermined, and although half of the motel is still operational, five units are deemed unsafe. Currently staying with their son, the Days are determined to rebuild their lives in 2026.
