Researchers beg Canada to stop importing monkeys for experimentation

A plane carrying live macaque monkeys from Cambodia to Montreal’s Mirabel Airport sparked concern from Canadians, leading to thousands of emails to Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault urging to end the importation of endangered primates for biomedical research. Eighty Canadian university professors, researchers, and clinicians sent a letter to Guilbeault, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Premier François Legault calling for an end to “illegal charter flights” organized by Charles River Laboratories bringing macaques to Montreal.
