The European Union’s Red Sea naval mission is preparing to launch a rescue mission for the Greek-flagged oil tanker Sounion, which was attacked by Houthi rebels off the coast of Yemen last month. The tanker, carrying 150,000 metric tons of crude oil, was hit by the rebels who claimed to have booby-trapped and detonated charges on the ship. The EU’s Aspides mission announced the upcoming operation on Monday to address the ongoing blaze and secure the vessel.
