Japan has deployed troops to assist residents affected by record-breaking snowfall, which has led to 30 deaths in the past two weeks. Authorities are warning people to watch for avalanches and snow falling from rooftops, with power outages possible in the hardest-hit areas. The northern city of Aomori has seen snow accumulation of up to 175cm on the ground, prompting the governor to request military assistance for disaster relief, especially for the elderly. As of Tuesday, a total of 290 people have been injured due to snow-related incidents, with the heavy snow expected to impact the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday.
