Germany had paused armed sales amid Israeli ground offensive in Gaza City, but cited ceasefire in resumption.
Germany has lifted its partial arms embargo on Israel, citing a ceasefire in Gaza, despite criticism from Amnesty International, which labeled the decision “reckless” and “unlawful.” The embargo was initially implemented due to pressure from domestic sources as Israeli forces intensified operations in Gaza City. Amnesty argued that the embargo was a crucial form of international pressure against Israel’s actions in the region. Germany is the second-largest supplier of weapons to Israel, having issued export licenses worth over 485 million euros since October 2023.
