‘Rare’ tornado with 111mph winds leaves thousands without power in Chile

Five people were injured, and 10,000 residents lost power following a tornado that struck Puerto Varas, Chile, at around 3:30 PM local time on Sunday, with wind speeds reaching up to 111 miles per hour. The tornado caused moderate damage, destroying 30 homes, a supermarket, and various vehicles, while also leading to downed power lines and trees. The National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response declared a red alert due to the severe weather, advising residents to avoid unnecessary risks as the storm posed a significant threat to life.
