Rain and snow lead to flooding and disrupt travel in parts of the UK

Rescuers in the U.K. evacuated people from flooded homes and cars as wintry weather caused chaos, with hundreds of schools closed, trains halted, and highways shut due to high water and snow. Flood warnings were issued in over 165 places in England and Wales, leading to major incidents and numerous rescues in Leicestershire and Lincolnshire where waterways overflowed and roads were submerged. Snow and ice warnings were in place for most of the U.K., with temperatures dropping below freezing and icy conditions expected into Tuesday and Wednesday.
