Queen Camilla to take break from Royal duties as she’s ‘exhausted’ after husband’s cancer diagnosis

Queen Camilla is all set for a sunny holiday, her first break since the King’s cancer diagnosis. The 76-year-old royal is said to be taking a break from her duties and flying off for a sunshine-filled vacation tomorrow, according to insiders.

Last week, Camilla was the last key royal standing – even as Prince Andrew made a return to public life at a Windsor event. Royal expert Ingrid Seward commented: “This will raise the question of who’s in charge at such a vital time and with so many key royals out of action.”

The Queen’s holiday follows a challenging week for the royals, who had to manage without the King while also dealing with his cancer diagnosis and wild conspiracy theories about William and Kate. The princess, aged 42, has not been seen in public since Christmas Day and is still recovering from abdominal surgery that took place in January.

It has been reported that Prince William had to miss the Windsor tribute to his godfather, Greece’s late King Constantine, on Tuesday due to a “personal matter”. This left Camilla to handle 13 official engagements since last month, while also keeping up with her own schedule and attending events alone where she was expected to be with her husband.

Last week, she was the leading figure at King Constantine’s memorial service in St George’s Chapel and hosted a reception for hundreds of guests. On Wednesday, she was the highest-ranking Royal at a children’s creative writing competition reception at Buckingham Palace, reports The Mirror Online.

The busy schedule continued on Thursday when she met Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, at Clarence House.

Sources say this hectic schedule has led the Queen to decide to take a break to recharge. Royal author Seward suggests that Charles, aged 75, would have “insisted” his wife step back from public duties.

The Royal expert also mentioned that the holiday is a great sign that the King is doing well since starting cancer treatment and noted that Camilla found the engagements “hard going”.

She further added: “He will see that she is exhausted after recent months. Camilla has had the ultimate worry about her husband’s health. But she has also been the one who has had to step up to the busy schedule of royal engagements as well as wanting to be there for him and Kate whilst they each have their health issues. She certainly deserves some rest and relaxation.”
