Quebec taxpayers will pay for civil service recruitment freeze, unions warn

Two major public sector unions, SFPQ and SPGQ, are criticizing the Legault government’s freeze on public sector recruitment, warning that it will ultimately harm service to Quebecers. The unions believe this move reflects austerity measures similar to those used by the previous Liberal government, despite the CAQ’s denial. They argue that the recruitment freeze will lead to delays in accessing government services and that outsourcing to private firms is more costly for taxpayers.
