Waikato police officer breached conduct with 1700 off-duty database queries
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A Waikato police officer conducted approximately 1,700 database checks for non-work-related reasons, believing it would make them a “good cop.” An investigation by the Independent Police Conduct Authority revealed that, aside from one likely work-related check, there was no legitimate work-related justification for the officer’s queries from March 2023 to October 2024.

Explain It To Me Like I’m 5: A police officer checked a database about a person a lot of times when they were not working, thinking it would help them be a better cop, but they didn’t have a good reason to do it.
