Sooners land QB Mateer, No. 1 player in portal

John Mateer, the top transfer quarterback in ESPN’s rankings, has committed to Oklahoma after a standout season at Washington State. He will join the Sooners with two seasons of eligibility remaining, following the hiring of offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and quarterbacks coach John Kuceyeski. Mateer excelled as a dual-threat player in 2024, leading the Cougars with 44 total touchdowns and earning a top-10 QBR among Group of 5 starters.
