Purplebricks removes house listing after seller’s ‘appalling message’ to buyer

An estate agent removed a house listing after a homeowner sent an “appalling” message to a prospective buyer. Purplebricks took the property off their account as the seller’s note “went against the company’s views and values”.

The home in question was on Hillcrest Avenue in the Great Barr area of Birmingham and was listed with the agent last spring.

On March 12, 2023, the homeowner cancelled the appointment of someone looking to buy their house. They said they would not accept any more viewings from the “Indian/Asian community”, whom they accused of “wasting people’s time”, reports Birmingham Live.

The full message from the seller read: “I am no longer taking viewings from the Indian/Asian community who are not serious buyers but just look around properties for sale…as a day out.

“There are many other properties you can waste people’s time on so I suggest you go view one of them.”

When Purplebricks were sent the message, they immediately informed the homeowner that they would not be selling the house and are understood to have refunded the initial sign-up fee.

A spokesperson for the agent said: “The sentiments expressed in this message are completely opposed to Purplebricks’ views and values. As soon as we saw this comment, we told the vendor that we wouldn’t sell their house and refunded their fee.

“The house is no longer on the market with Purplebricks. We also contacted the buyer to express how appalled we were by this message and apologise that they’ve had this experience.”

When Birmingham Live visited the property in a bid to speak to the seller, a woman, who did not wish to give her name, answered and said she did not know the owner.

The message was also shared on the website Next Door, sparking anger online. One person wrote: “So disgusting and unnecessary.” Someone else said: “Absolutely ridiculous.”

Donald Trump declared on TruthSocial that the Fordow nuclear sites in Iran had been 'OBLITERATED' following US military strikes, which he labeled as one of history's most successful.
