Two Russian nationals, Kostiantyn Kalashnikov and Elena Afanasyeva, were indicted in Manhattan federal court for their involvement in a scheme to promote Russian interests to the American public before the election. Both individuals are employees of RT, a state-controlled media company funded by the Russian government. RT allegedly paid a Tennessee-based content company $10 million to create content aimed at influencing American audiences.
