A 55-year-old protesting farmer, Resham Singh, committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at the Shambhu border, where he was taken to Rajindra hospital in Patiala and later died. This is the second such incident within three weeks, with another farmer Ranjodh Singh having previously committed suicide due to distress over the deteriorating health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal. The farmers, under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points since February 13 due to unresolved issues with the Central government.
