In Tbilisi, Georgia, protests against the government’s decision to suspend EU negotiations turned violent, with 44 people hospitalized after clashes with police using water cannons and tear gas. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze warned of strict consequences for law violations, denying that Georgia’s European integration had been halted and dismissing US State Department’s suspension of strategic partnership. The ruling Georgian Dream party’s disputed victory in the parliamentary election, accused of being rigged with Russian help, has led to major demonstrations and opposition calls for new elections to prevent misrepresentation of people’s will.
