Prince Harry will need to make a significant effort to prove himself if he hopes to reconcile with Prince William.
Although a palace source confirmed that the brothers had no plans to see each other when Harry rushed to the UK to be with King Charles III following his cancer diagnosis announcement, it is believed that Harry did reach out to William in an attempt to reconcile. However, his efforts to reconnect were unsuccessful.
A former courtier seemingly defended William’s decision to prioritize his wife, Princess Catherine, who is recovering from surgery. However, the lack of effort from Harry to visit his sister-in-law highlights the severity of the feud between the brothers. Unfortunately, it appears that there is no resolution in sight unless one of them is willing to let go of their stubbornness.
In response to the tense situation, a source close to the royal household commented:
“It would be expected to visit your sister-in-law after a serious operation and spend time with your niece and nephews. But sadly, this situation is far from normal and incredibly sad.”
Catherine Mayer, author of Charles: The Heart of a King, described the family turmoil as a deep wound, emphasizing the profound breach between the family members.
Despite a brief meeting between Harry and Charles, where Queen Camilla had to intervene to be included, there is a reluctance within the royal family to provide any ammunition for Harry and Meghan Markle’s potential tell-all projects. Royal biographer Robert Lacey suggested that William’s hesitation stems from his desire to protect the monarchy, which he believes Harry cannot be trusted with.
Harry, on the other hand, is waiting for an apology from his family for their treatment of him and Meghan. The standoff continues, with both sides seemingly waiting for the other to make the first move towards reconciliation.
While Harry may have the opportunity to demonstrate his loyalty during the upcoming Invictus Games anniversary in May, simply being in the same location may not be enough to mend the rift between the brothers.
