Homophobia rife in schools as three-quarters of primary age children report hearing derogatory comments

New research by Charity Just Like Us found that 78% of nine- to 11-year-olds and 80% of secondary school pupils have heard homophobic language, with TikTok being a common source. TikTok prohibits hateful content based on gender, gender identity, sex, or sexual orientation. The survey conducted by VotesForSchools in June highlights the prevalence of homophobic language among young children, with some citing TikTok trends like ‘English or Spanish?’ as contributing to the issue.
