Prestwick homicide victim identified; knew his attacker, say police

City police have identified the victim of a stabbing incident that occurred on Monday in the southeast neighbourhood of Prestwick.

Following an autopsy conducted on Tuesday, authorities revealed that the deceased individual from the assault that took place around 8:25 a.m. the day before in the 300 block of Prestwick Terrace S.E. was Joel Aaron Clark, a 46-year-old resident of Calgary.

According to police, Clark was acquainted with his attacker.

Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement found the victim deceased and the suspect had already fled.

However, the suspect was soon located at a nearby shopping plaza, where witnesses reported seeing him entering a business and ordering a coffee.

As customers were evacuated from the establishment, the suspect fled on foot from the police, but was eventually apprehended and taken away by ambulance. Authorities stated that the suspect’s identity will be disclosed once charges are formally filed by a justice of the peace.

This incident marks the sixth homicide in Calgary this year.
