Woman awarded £94,000 payout after being sacked with a ‘jazz hands’ emoji while pregnant

Pregnant investment consultant Paula Miluska was fired via text by her boss Ammar Kabir, who cited the company’s need for someone in the office while she was ill from morning sickness, leading to a compensation of nearly £94,000. The employment tribunal found that the termination was unjust due to her pregnancy, with Mr Kabir’s message ending with a “jazz hands smiley” emoji, indicating insensitivity to her condition. Ms Miluska had joined Roman Property Group Limited in March 2022 and experienced morning sickness after revealing her pregnancy in October 2022.
