In a joint effort with 14 economists, led by Ganesh Nana, a stand was taken against harmful fiscal policies in New Zealand, emphasizing the damaging effects of reckless spending cuts and austerity measures. The group highlighted the importance of understanding how economies function, stating that budget deficits naturally increase during recessions and decrease during recovery phases. Despite recent decisions to exclude ACC deficits from the deficit measure, concerns remain about the underlying philosophy of small government and the potential impact on low-income families and social welfare.
