During the police’s recent destruction process, a total of 12,502 handguns, 1,921 rifles, 1,305 shotguns, and combination firearms were destroyed, bringing the six-year total to 279,594 firearms and parts. The Deputy National Commissioner for Policing, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili, oversaw the destruction as part of the ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms and ammunition from circulation. The police remain committed to detecting and permanently eliminating these weapons to enhance public safety.
