Police investigating the car crash deaths of two British tourists near Spain’s La Manga luxury resort have arrested 17 members of an alleged human smuggling gang, including the driver suspected of killing them. The unnamed Moroccan driver has been held on suspicion of homicide and attempted homicide following the horrific accident, which occurred when a vehicle pulling a trailer blocked the road, leading to a mass pile-up. The detainees are accused of belonging to a people smuggling gang specializing in speedboat crossings from North Africa to southern Spain, and were found in possession of weapons, drugs, and other incriminating evidence during the operation.
