Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre plans to change the Criminal Code to impose mandatory life sentences on fentanyl “kingpins” convicted of trafficking significant quantities of the drug, aligning with Trump’s push for tougher measures against fentanyl. Poilievre’s proposal aims to deter criminal organizations from producing fentanyl superlabs, like the one recently busted in B.C., and combat the deadly impact of the drug. In response, the Trudeau government is implementing anti-fentanyl policies, including designating drug cartels as terrorist entities and establishing a Canada-U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime and money laundering.
