Athol Fugard, a South African playwright known for his intimate and personal plays about life during and after apartheid, passed away at the age of 92. Fugard’s work, with close to three dozen plays, explored the impact of the oppressive political system on both the black majority and white minority in his country. His breakthrough play, Blood Knot, featured only two actors and was considered revolutionary at the time.
