A plane successfully landed at Colorado’s Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport on Saturday using Garmin’s emergency “Autoland” system, marking its first real-world activation. The pilot reported a pressurization issue shortly after takeoff from Aspen, leading to the activation of the Autoland, which can be triggered by anyone on board or automatically if the pilot is incapacitated. The aircraft, tail number N479BR, was operated by Buffalo River Aviation, and all individuals on board were reported safe. This technology, designed to ensure safe landings when pilots cannot control the aircraft, was first introduced in 2019.
