The Pimicikamak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba faces ongoing challenges after a four-day power outage left over 4,000 residents evacuated and homes damaged, rendering many unlivable. Although Manitoba Hydro has restored electricity, infrastructure issues, including a damaged water treatment plant, have led Chief David Monias to extend the evacuation indefinitely. Residents are currently housed in hotels, with around 200 of the community’s 1,300 homes assessed for repairs. Health concerns and supply shortages complicate the situation, prompting additional evacuations and urgent calls for support to address the community’s needs.
