A pilot and his dog safely made it to shore on Sunday afternoon after the pilot crashed his small plane off Rancho Palos Verdes, as reported by law enforcement officials.
Sgt. Jeffrey Velasco from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated that a call was received around 5:20 p.m. reporting a plane crash into the ocean near Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles.
The department quickly dispatched an air rescue team for the small plane. Deputies who responded to the scene confirmed that the pilot was uninjured. Los Angeles County Fire Supervisor Bernard Peters informed the Los Angeles Daily News that the plane involved was a single-engine Piper Cherokee Six.
Unfortunately, the plane sank, and details surrounding the incident remained unclear on Sunday evening, including the plane’s departure location and whether it was attempting an emergency landing.
U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson Edward Wargo mentioned that there was one person on board the plane along with their dog.
“Both the individual and the dog were able to safely swim to shore,” Wargo added.
Wargo also stated that the Coast Guard’s current focus is on preventing any environmental damage resulting from the plane’s fuel.
