Thousands of right-wing Israelis marched through occupied East Jerusalem to celebrate the city’s occupation since the 1967 Six-Day War, chanting anti-Arab and anti-Islamic slogans. The police were on hand due to the history of assaults on Palestinians during these events, with demonstrators also storming the UNRWA headquarters in Sheikh Jarrah. Previous marches have led to violence, including an attack on a Palestinian journalist and contributed to the escalation of conflict, notably the 11-day war in Gaza four years ago.
