Climate crisis threatens Pakistan’s bees and honey trade

In Pakistan’s Punjab province, beekeepers are facing challenges due to climate change and pollution, forcing them to travel long distances in search of suitable conditions for honey production. The industry has been impacted by unpredictable weather patterns, hazardous smog levels, and diminishing rainfall, leading to a 15 percent decrease in honey production since 2022. Despite these challenges, new technology such as improved ventilation in beehives offers hope for increasing production by 10 percent, although beekeepers still face financial challenges and potential harassment while seeking better weather conditions.
