Major League Baseball Reinstates Pete Rose and Joe Jackson

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred reinstated Pete Rose and “Shoeless” Joe Jackson, allowing them eligibility for the Hall of Fame after their careers were marred by gambling scandals. Rose, banned in 1989 for betting on games, was reinstated following his death, while Jackson was part of the infamous 1919 Black Sox scandal. The decision affects a total of 17 players; however, under current Hall rules, both can only be inducted starting in 2028, with Rose’s reinstatement too late for prior ballot consideration.
