An image of Queen Elizabeth II in her iconic wattle dress from her 1954 Australia tour features prominently on newly launched coins commemorating her 100th birthday. The collection, unveiled at Government House, includes two gold coins, two silver coins, and a three-piece set designed by Kimberly-born artist Natasha Muhl. Perth Mint presented two collections to Governor Chris Dawson, one for Government House and another for King Charles III. The Governor remarked that the coins reflect Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy, highlighting her influence on both Australian and global history. Muhl’s designs also incorporate significant symbols, including Australia’s national floral emblem, the golden wattle, and a commemorative florin from the Queen’s first visit to Australia.

Why It Matters

These commemorative coins not only celebrate the centennial of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth but also symbolize her enduring legacy following her 70-year reign. The coins were personally endorsed by King Charles III, marking a continuity of royal tradition and connection to Australia. The designs, featuring significant national symbols, serve to reinforce the cultural identity of Australia and its historical ties to the British monarchy. This release provides a tangible piece of history and commemorates a pivotal figure in both Australian and global contexts.
