Paul Mescal did not contact Russell Crowe before taking on the lead role in the Gladiator sequel, as he felt unsure of what to say. Mescal will be portraying Lucius, the son of Crowe’s character Maximus, in Gladiator II, directed by Ridley Scott. The movie follows Lucius as he fights as a gladiator to free Rome from tyrannical leaders, with a star-studded cast including Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal, set for release in November in the US and UK.
