The Parti Québécois has won the Chicoutimi byelection, marking its fourth consecutive byelection victory as the province approaches the general election in October. Marie-Karlynn Laflamme received over 45% of the votes, significantly ahead of the Conservative Party’s Catherine Morissette. This riding, previously held by the Coalition Avenir Québec, has been vacant since former cabinet minister Andrée Laforest left for a mayoral bid. The PQ now holds seven seats in the National Assembly, an increase from the last election.
