On Sunday, Sudanese paramilitaries, specifically the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), launched drone attacks on Port Sudan, targeting the Osman Digna Air Base and civilian facilities, marking the first assault on the army-aligned government’s stronghold since the war began. The RSF, engaged in conflict with the regular army since April 2023, has escalated drone warfare after losing territory, including Khartoum, with this latest attack causing limited damage but prompting the suspension of flights at the main port. This escalation highlights a shift in the conflict, as the army maintains control over central and northern Sudan while the RSF dominates the western region of Darfur.
