Papua New Guinea and Australia Sign Defence Treaty

The Pukpuk Treaty is due to be signed soon by PNG Prime Minister James Marape and Australia’s PM Anthony Albanese.

Papua New Guinea (PNG) has approved the Pukpuk Treaty, a mutual defense agreement with Australia, aimed at strengthening ties and modernizing PNG’s military. The treaty will allow 10,000 Papua New Guineans to join the Australian Defence Force and includes provisions for mutual support while respecting PNG’s relationships with other countries, notably China.
