California Senator Alex Padilla is introducing a package of bills to increase pay for firefighters battling the Los Angeles County fires and create housing for disaster victims, which could later become part of the state’s affordable housing supply. One bill would require FEMA and HUD to quickly create housing that can transition into affordable housing, while another bill would expand FEMA funding for firefighting tools before disasters occur. Padilla also aims to raise wages for federal firefighters with promises of higher pay to recruit and retain personnel.

WWII pilot accounted for 82 years after being credited with saving airman’s life in deadly crash
A World War II pilot, Army Air Forces 1st Lt. Charles W. McCook, has been accounted for after being missing since his plane crash on August 3, 1943, during a bombing mission in Burma.
